Most people think that overweight is the reason that is leading you to diabetes. But, this is not completely true. It is your inactive or sedentary lifestyle and obesity that cause type 2 diabetes. It is also known as diabetes mellitus. According to a study, in the United States, an inactive or sedentary lifestyle is causing 90% of diabetic cases. So, before letting you know whether your lifestyle is leading you to diabetes or not, you must know what causes type 2 diabetes.

In the case of a healthy body, insulin is released from the pancreas and it uses sugar that we eat to create energy. However, diabetes happens if anyone of the following scenario occurs if

  • The pancreas stops making insulin.
  • The pancreas does not make enough insulin.
  • Your body does not respond to insulin properly.

The report says that most people are suffering from type 2 diabetes. Now, in the case of type 2 diabetes, the body creates insulin but, it is not enough. Now, when there is not enough insulin in the body, the glucose or sugar cannot get into the cells of the body and as a result, it starts building up in the blood. Moreover, when the cells are not getting enough glucose, they will not function properly.

Keeping blood sugar under control is not as easy as it sounds. Moreover, people in this modern era are having a very hectic lifestyle and this is making the situation worse. Things that are leading you to diabetes are as follows:

    • Food: Food is playing a very critical role here. If you regularly consume sugar and refined carbs, you will not be able to prevent diabetes. Refined carbs will increase the blood glucose level in your body and as a result, it will lead you to type 2 diabetes.
    • Inactive Routine: We can understand that the hectic schedule does not provide enough time so that people can take care of themselves. The fact is that people are having a very sedentary lifestyle and it can lead to diabetes. If you do not exercise regularly, the blood sugar level will increase. Doing physical exercise is very important to keep the sugar level under control. When we do exercise, our muscles use glucose for getting energy.
    • Smoking: If you smoke, you are actually putting your life at risk. Smoking actually increases insulin resistance in our bodies. It means that your body will not produce enough insulin if you keep smoking. So, you should stop smoking otherwise, it will lead you to diabetes.
    • Drinking Less Water: Well, people are nowadays giving more preference to beverages instead of water. Beverages consist of sugar and so, it will increase the blood sugar level. If you are in the pre-diabetes stage, drinking beverages will lead you to type 2 diabetes.
    • Consuming Processed Foods: Consuming processed food is another inextricable part of our daily lifestyle. But, you might be shocked to know that it will lead you to type 2 diabetes.
