Can Diabetes Be Cured Permanently

  • by DiabetesHealthMatters

According to a survey, more than 50% of adults in the United States are suffering from diabetes. They are either suffering from type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes. However, when it comes to curing diabetes, there is much research that had been done to find the proper cure for this disease. When it comes to the types of diabetes, there are mainly two different types of diabetes- type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. In the case of type 1 diabetes, the pancreas in our body stops producing insulin. In such a case, insulin needs to be injected. In the case of type 2 diabetes, the body produces very little insulin.

Research has been done to find the cure. But, they are in the trial stages. When diabetes is kept in control, doctors use a specific term, ‘remission’. If the diabetes is in remission, it means there will not be any symptoms. But, you will have to take care of yourself. Yes, you need to keep the blood glucose level under control. Otherwise, it will again lead to type 2 diabetes.

Types Of Remission

There are different types of remissions. These are as follows:

  • Complete Remission: If the blood sugar level is normal without taking any medication for at least a year, it is called complete remission.
  • Partial Remission: If the blood sugar level is lower than the danger level without taking any pills for more than a year, it is called partial remission.
  • Prolonged Remission: if the blood sugar level is normal for at least 5 years, it is called prolonged remission.

Even, if the blood glucose level is normal for more than 10 years, you will still be considered diabetic remission. Doctors will never say that it is completely cured.

Fasting Blood Glucose Test

You must check the blood glucose level in order to keep yourself in good shape. As we are talking about checking blood glucose levels, we must talk about the Fasting blood glucose test. A fasting blood glucose test is done to measure the blood glucose level in your body. If the fasting blood glucose level is less than 5.6 mmol/L, it will be considered normal. If the fasting blood glucose level is between 5.6 mmol/L and 6.9 mmol/L, it is considered pre-diabetes. If it is 7 mmol/L or higher than this, you have diabetes.

Ways To Prevent Diabetes

As of now, there is no proper cure for diabetes. But, there are ways to prevent diabetes. You can follow the below-mentioned ways to keep the blood sugar level under control.

    • Drink Water: You should drink water to keep the blood glucose level in control. It will actually rehydrate the blood and therefore, it will reduce the risk of diabetes.
    • Increase Fiber Intake: You will have to increase the fiber intake. It can slow sugar absorption and carb digestion and gradually, it will actually promote blood glucose management. When it comes to consuming fiber, you should go with soluble fiber as it will show better results.
